Ten Things You Shouldn't Buy New

Ten Things You Shouldn't Buy New

Books
See my post about using Amazon for recommendations and the library to read the books. Use LibraryElf to get email reminders when books are coming up to be returned.

DVDs and CDs
Freecyclers frequently give these away. There are mail order firms to rent from and again the library is a great resource.

Little kids' toys
Freecycle, trade with friends, garage sales, eBay.

Jewelry
Not sure I agree with this one.

Sports equipment
Goodwill, garage sales, eBay, freecycle. Is Play It Again Sports still around?

Timeshares
I think these are a waste so I have no comment.

Cars
While I understand the numbers, I bought my car brand new in 1998 and still have it and will keep driving it until it dies and will buy another new car because I like being the only owner and knowing the repair and accident history.

Software and console games
Good idea never thought of it but then again I don't buy this stuff.

Office furniture
Broken record I know, Freecycle, garage sales. In my home office, I got two file cabinets, one that I had and one that my brother no longer needed and a piece of counter top from him too, that I laid across it. Instant longer than normal desk at no charge.

Hand tools
Freecycle, garage sales, going in with a neighbor, same with yard equipment

All in all I think she's offered some great ideas here. I'm impressed that I've either already done most of this or already blogged about it.

$1.25 Cherry Coke
.50 Snack Box (need to bring my lunch)
3.79 Taco Bell (they gave me the wrong thing so they owe me)
