Part of the Space Clearing that I went through went I read Karen Kingston's book included getting rid of books that I had. Old college textbooks and miscellaneous novels and instructional I had. Usually in October there is a group that will collect them then have a sale at Paka Plaza as a fundraiser. I've gone through my books twice to weed out ones I no longer want and now only have maybe one small shelf's worth.
I love to read though so I request books online from the library. I use Amazon.com to rate books I've read and they make recommendations based on those. This works out very well. They have suggested some excellent books that I've really enjoyed.
The best part about using the library (beside being free) is that I don't have the clutter of the books around for years.
Now if I could just get the books back on time, I would save on late fines!
